SSE Children of Seremban Reach Out
The 3rd day of Navarathri (Sept 30th 2011) was indeed a very eventful and exciting day for the SSE children of the Seremban centre with a visit to the Blue temple which was the nearest Devi temple to the centre. A fleet of cars with parents and gurus including the van that brought the children of the Nandeeshwar Home, ferried children to the Blue temple which provided an amazing experience for both the parents and the children alike firstly because many were unaware of the existence of this temple and besides they had never been to a temple with such an unusual name situated smack in the middle of a housing estate, on top of a hill. Secondly it had deities positioned at various levels because of the hilly terrain that the temple was situated on and this fascinated the children even further. The devotees who were present in the temple consisted of locals who lived around Taman Permai as well as from out-station. They were impressed with the children’s rendition of the bhajans and their recitation of the mahishasura mardhini verses. The temple priest allowed the children to make a choral speaking presentation in front of the deity which was on why Vijaya Dashami was celebrated. The children were even allowed to sing a birthday song for one of their friends and finally to place the flowers that they had brought, at the deity’s feet. It was nice to see our SSE students giving some of their flowers to the children of the Home as the latter had not brought any. At the end, everyone was treated to a sumptuous dinner provided by the temple authorities.
The whole event enabled the children to reach out to the general public living around the area and it was entirely a different experience for the children with a bit of adventure into the unknown thrown in. It allowed opportunities for them to present what they had learned in SSE and it gave them a lot of confidence in singing publicly. As for the gurus, they had to a chance to mingle with the parents who were delighted that their children were given centre- stage in a temple celebration. It also made us all aware of the presence of this beautiful temple so near the centre that we could make use of in the near future.
