The Eternal Educator

Thus wrote the famous 16th century playwright William Shakespeare. But for aeons before that, this stage has been live and on with many an actor who has donned different roles. There are climactic moments when the stage gets specially graced with the Director stepping into the play for an important two-faceted role:

1. To teach the erring actors the importance of abiding by the rules while on stage!
2. To teach them not to get so involved in the play that they forget they are merely actors!

When the Director descended onto the stage as Sri Sathya Sai, He tirelessly played His part to perfection, building on the monumental work done by previous such Descents. However there was one special difference – for the first time, an Avatar took up educating man about his true nature almost on a war footing! Luring the youth with the bait of secular knowledge, Swami bestowed on them the priceless and eternal Atma Vidya, the Knowledge of the Soul. Millions were blessed with the privilege that Arjuna alone enjoyed thousands of years ago when he heard the Bhagawat Gita from Lord Krishna.

How else to describe the magnificent Sathya Sai Avatar! The story of His glory is the glory of His Story and the video below makes an humble endeavour to capture that in a song. Like the salt doll that attempted to measure the depths of the ocean and in the process got dissolved in it, let us loose ourselves in the divine raptures of this song.

Many times when we think of the accomplishments of the Divine Descent, we wonder as to what mighty change has been brought about? Like in the times of Jesus, the Buddha, the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon Him), Lord Rama or Lord Krishna, the world did not seem to change much before and after them. Even now, when we see the world and think of the Sathya Sai Avatar, we may wonder, “Of course there have been changes. But they are far too tiny compared to what God can bring about!”

A teacher from the Sathya Sai University answered this doubt most beautifully:

“When the Avatar descends, He achieves many things no doubt. But the most important accomplishment is that He cultivates Love for God in the hearts of people. That is in fact the sole purpose of God’s Descent, the rest being just associated benefits! And that is because, once there is Love, the other virtues automatically arrive and the vices are wiped away clean. The root of all peace and joy is Love.”

Having been blessed with the sapling of Divine Love in all our hearts, let us nourish this Love for Him and sanctify our lives. As Saint Augustine beautifully sums it, “To fall in love with God is the greatest of romances; to seek Him, the greatest adventure; to find Him the greatest human achievement.”
