Health Minister Launches Sai Medical Camp At Karak, Pahang
Health Minister, Dato’ Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who officiated at the launch of the Sai Health, Medical and Dental Camp at Sekolah Rendah Cina Karak near Bentong recently, was delighted with what he saw.
And understandably so.
For 32 two volunteer doctors including several specialists – a paediatrician, an ophthalmologist, three otorhinolaryngologists, two obstetricians and gynaecologists and a dentist, assisted by 74 nurses and paramedics and 110 Sai volunteers were providing selfless service to the sick.
And the response from the residents was overwhelming. More than 500 people living in and around had turned for free health checkups.
In his address, Dato Seri Liow said the Health Ministry would collaborate with the Sai Baba organization in the area of preventive health care in places where it was needed most.
The Health Minister was responding to Professor Dr. Suresh Govind who had earlier asked the Health Ministry to identify 10-15 places in the country which were in dire need of health care. He had also outlined the various socio- care, edu-care, health-care, medi-care and environment-care initiatives undertaken by the Council for the poor, sick and needy irrespective of race or religion
The health camp was organised by the Sai Baba Centres / Bhajan Unit of Pahang and the Selangor/ Wilayah Sai medical team, Pahang State Health Department and the Pahang branch of the Malaysian Medical Association in collaboration with the Bentong Health Office and the Karak Health Centre.
The patients were screened for obesity, blood pressure, blood glucose levels, vision impairment, and oral health. De-worming, de-licing, immunization of children, pap smear examinations, self-breast examination techniques for breast cancer, counselling, video screening and talks on health Issues by Hospital Kuala Lumpur staff were also conducted.
A health exhibition by the Karak Health Clinic and a blood donation campaign by the Bentong Blood Bank were also held.
Some 90 cases were referred to the Bentong district hospital and Hospital Sultan Ahamd Shah Temerloh for further diagnosis and treatment.
