More than 6000 Walk for Values at Klang
More than 6000 students and residents from around Klang district gathered and marched together as part of Walk for Values: Go Green Carnival organized by Sathya Sai Baba Center of Bandar Klang under the umbrella of Sathya Sai Baba Central Council of Malaysia(SSBCCM) in collaboration with Majlis Perbandaran Klang(MPK) and Giant Bukit Tinggi Klang.
Walk for Values: Go Green Carnival is a Sathya Sai Baba Central Council of Malaysia’s initiative on Human Values and Environmental Awareness. It is part of the series of Environment Care initiative by the Sathya Sai Central Council of Malaysia and has been organized across Malaysia in the past three years. The event in Klang was held at Giant Bukit Tinggi Klang in conjunction with Earth Day which fell on April 22,2011.
The event’s objective is to raise awareness of positive human values such as love, truth, non-violence, right conduct and peace for a peaceful, caring and understanding society and also draw attention to the urgent need to practice Human Values in order to eradicate social and environmental ills that impoverish our lives and spirit. The carnival includes a march followed by exhibition and performances based on Go Green.
This event was made possible with close collaboration from MPK, Giant and Ministry of Education through the Selangor State Education Department and Klang District Education Office. MPK as part of their Local Agenda 21: Go Green initiative and Giant contributed significantly to the success of this event.
The march was flagged off by Mr.Charles Santiago, Klang Member of Parliament with Mr. Dawari Daud, Corporate Director, MPK and Mr.Zulkifli Ismail from the District Education Office. During his opening speech Mr.Dawari Daud shared his delight in seeing so many young participants and affirmed the commitment of MPK as a strong partner in Klang district on environment care. Mr.Zulkifli Ismail, representing the Klang District Education Office congratulated the schools for actively participating and making it a memorable event. The event was also attended by Mr. Matthias Gelber as part of his eco-talk series. In his talk, Mr.Matthias or popularly known as Mr.Green emphasized the need to be ‘Green’ everyday and in all our daily activities.
More than 20 schools from the Klang district participated in the event. Students walked with their own placards, banners showing Go Green messages and cheering along the way. Following the march, students and residents visited the “Green Clubhouse” set up by the Sathya Sai Baba Center of Bandar Klang and took part in various green activities and games set up at the booths.
In his closing speech, Prof.Dr.Suresh Govind, President Sathya Sai Baba Central Council of Malaysia thanked all the partners and requested the schools to continue to participate in green initiatives and human values initiative as integral part of the student’s character development. TSSBCCM is looking forward to collaborate further in increasing human values awareness and conducting future programs in Klang and the state.
